Once more, the project Arrrebita! Porto keeps improving processes and paths, learning a lot from a team that came to make the difference for a trimester!
Good luck, super 5!
Last Thursday, March 20th, the 8th Team of Arrebita! Porto had time to make a summary and a balance about their stay with the project, in a dynamic way. What did they learn from each other, what has changed in their perspectives, what kind of thing would they change, how they see their 3 months participation in the project,... These were some of the ideas that have been focused with the help of music, collage, drawings and debate around a round table. Once more, the project Arrrebita! Porto keeps improving processes and paths, learning a lot from a team that came to make the difference for a trimester! Good luck, super 5! Pictures by Sérgio Ferrão & Rita Pureza

On the 16th of March Edite Amorim joined Galician Maria Jesus, director of Lesing and Spanish sign language interpreter, for an artistic project to celebrate communication in all its diverse expressions. Maria Jesus (Chus) captivated the audience in a symposium in which Edite A. presented a conference in Pontevedra. From there, the seed of an idea was born to create something together to celebrate the art of, with the hands and an expressive body, being able to deliver all possible messages. On a cold Sunday they got together in a studio in Porto, Portugal, where a video was recorded of the two of them expressing a passage on that celebration of communication: “El cuerpo habla” (The speaking body) (see the video at the end of the post). Through the hands, technique and art of Catarina David, photographed by the journalist Ávany França, and with the colaboration of some enthusiastic friends, an experience-homage to those who, with the body, express life in such a beautiful way. Grateful to Chus, for the inspiration and beauty. Excerpt of the work “The speaking body”: “Today we gather to share the magic of expression. The magic to impart what we feel through the most organic means, our body. The body as an instrument that reveals more about the world, about our world. And that shares the worlds of others. The body that speaks, the body that demonstrates, the body that communicates. The body that is present. (…) We have stopped to celebrate this body that speaks. (…)”. Here is the result on video, by Catarina David: Text written by Eugénia Branco, one of the 16 participants of the class “Profile of an Entrepreneur” by ANJE, taken in January 2014 in S. Mamede de Infesta, Matosinhos.
Seven sessions of sharing and knowledge. The knowledge of the “I” and the “you”. Moved by a glorifying sun, even in rainy days, by an energy extended by magnets that made us say what was in our souls. Edite, the Sun, and we the Little Plants yearning to get that Sun, to Grow. And how Much we Grew! And we made ourselves into a Team, all on the same level, we opened ourselves as the water lily when it catches the first sunlight, and we told our lives’ stories. Without prejudices, judgments or comparisons. But with the persistency and attitude necessary to Think, Learn, Intervene, Create and Construct. And this was a Journey full of life and motivation for what lies ahead. A quest for feelings hidden within the soul, but ready to blossom. A will and the belief that the everyday struggle for our Passions is the starting point to attain them. Those who do with pleasure walk Happier. With an enormous drive to get to know everyone better and to do whatever we please, to enjoy life. But also to be mindful that there will be plenty of obstacles and trials to overcome. And we are not lacking weapons! The skill of patience and wisdom to always Believe and Want much and evermore. Searching for our Happiness and Passions. The Attitude to Change and Build and Listen to Other people, the Other people being all of Us. Knowing how to stop and Think and Feel Life whenever needed. To appraise our path so we can change and grow from mistakes and failures, and be able to keep to that path, always searching for something better, without slackening our pace. Being positive and trusting ourselves. I learned that being an entrepreneur is all of this! If we can Shout when we have to, Cry when we need to, and keep Get up again to keep on, all of us entrepreneurs, at least of our own lives. Thank you Edite, for all your carefulness, for your hugs, for the Sun you give out and you rub off on me. You taught me to be better me…” For a basic translation you can use: http://translate.google.pt/#pt/en/ Nunca sintas que perdes tempo por olhar para o lado Esquece o que a professora da primária te disse: agora podes olhar para o lado, distrair-te com as moscas, olhar pela janela, copiar pelo do lado, mandar bilhetinhos em pedaços mal cortados de papel de linhas.
Agora podes – agora deves! A senhora professora virou as costas. (Text originally written in Portuguese) On January the 14th, 2014, THINKING-BIG was back to Arrebita! Porto, a social project that is working on the rehabilitation of Oporto city. After working with Team 7, team 8 has just arrived, with five new different perspectives, mingling Portuguese people with a Scottish, a Brazilian and an Italian. This will be the team in charge for the next three months! For three hours we worked together co-creating a session that would allow everyone to get to know better, to create a trusting environment with the others allowing a certain group felling. We started working with first impressions. The importance of knowing where to find the other was highlighted. There was an opportunity to understand what we have to offer to the group and what do we look for in others. We explored creativity and curiosity, sharing expectations and wishes. The group finished the session more aware of the surrounding setting, of the others’ presence and of the importance of their own place. This is how they saw us: http://arrebitaporto.blogspot.pt/2014/01/roof-structure-check.html. Another good day for moving and getting to know people that make the world go round! What the team took from the session: - Insight on the team & myself. - I work with really good people and I'm not as socially awkward as I think. - Feel more precious about my time in Porto. - Attention to the others. - I take a small read of the group personalities and a better knowledge of what we all got to offer. - Feeling almost at home. - Knowledge and a way to connect/approach the team. Support: Rita Pureza On November, 28th, from 10:30 to 12:30, a group of 10 people gathered to listen and participate in an activity hosted by Cidade das Profissões. "Do you question things and how they happen?" "What inspires you, and how does it happen?" "Do you create collaborations?" "Do you come up with resources?" "How can you change aspects of society that don't work?" These were some of the topics that this open and motivated group considered and discussed. By the end of those 2 hours, each person designed their action plan by answering questions such as "What have I learned?" and "What shall I challenge myself with?" The answers can be seen below, as originally written, but made anonymous and with the consent of the the participants, so that it may serve - who knows? - as an inspiration for new plans. In 2 hours you cannot create worlds, but you can, definitely, start doing it! The original way of payment of the workshop: bring postcards, stamps or any organic food!
On November 22nd, 2013, THINKING-BIG returned to the conference panel of the Porto Entrepreneur Fair, organised by ANJE (Young Entrepreneurs National Association). For an hour we spoke of "Thinking big - great reasons for having a side project" to the almost 100 people present. An interested audience made up of people who are not restrained by obstacles.
Last Thursday, November 21st, the partnership between THINKING-BIG and Arrebita! Porto (http://arrebitaporto.blogspot.pt/) took its first steps, in Porto, Portugal! Wishing to be part of this powerful social project focused on "a collaborative network for the urban regeneration of Porto", THINKING-BIG has offered to collaborate with its expertise: Group work, communication and creativity. So for 3 hours the group gathered in a different way: instead of tables, computers and building issues, the group of 8 (architects and engineers from Portugal, Romania, France and Italy) had space, movement, group activities and the focus of the conversation on themselves, as a team. The result is on their faces, in the pictures. Some comments on "What do you take from the session": - New challenges - Good mood! Encouragement for the future! - Positiveness - Take new approach to knowing people - Life is time/ time is life? - Interesting come together - Better awareness - Smart - I need to be willing/able to express myself more - Mainstream is boring - Perception from others - More other & self consciousness - Fun - Motivation - Passion to get out and explore more Portugal Do you want to take a look on the group dynamics in the "post-its moment"?
